Inter Miami: Okocha Speaks His Mind on Messi, His Straightforward Response

Nigerian football legend and icon of African football, Jay-Jay Okocha, has explained why he prefers Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo in the debate over the title of world football champion.

The iconic playmaker, who played for Paris Saint-Germain and Bolton during his career, earning 73 caps for his country, was known for his ability to lift supporters out of their seats. More recently, Ronaldo and Messi have done the same.

Together, they have rewritten the record books (12 Ballon d’Or awards each) and are assured places at the top of the list of the greatest players of all time. Okocha admires both, but he admits they bring different qualities.

Speaking to Capital FM, Okocha shared his view on one of the longest-running debates in the world of sports: “I think both deserve to be considered the greatest of all time, but I prefer Messi. For me, Cristiano Ronaldo is the epitome of what one can achieve through hard work, but for Messi, everything comes naturally… and he works hard too.”

Messi has found his form after leaving PSG for Inter Miami in the MLS, scoring 11 goals in 10 appearances while securing the 44th trophy of his remarkable career.

Ronaldo is not far behind at 38 years old, having scored 12 goals in 11 outings for Al-Nassr this season, bringing his total to 850.
