“In One Night”: Erdogan Threatens Military Intervention in Syria in This Case

Turkey continues to deepen its involvement in the Syrian issue through various actions and statements aimed at consolidating its political and military influence in the region. The latest of these statements came from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who on Monday reiterated his rejection of any partition of Syria after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, stressing that Ankara is ready to take “necessary measures” in response to any “threat” in this regard.

Following a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan stated: “We cannot allow, under any pretext, the partitioning of Syria. If we observe even the slightest risk (of this happening), we will quickly take the necessary measures,” adding that the end of Kurdish militants in Syria is near and that “there is no place for terrorism in Syria’s future.”

The Turkish president threatened to launch a new cross-border operation into Syria against Kurdish armed factions if Turkey perceives a threat.

He added: “There is no place for terrorism, and those who support terrorists will be buried alongside their weapons,” emphasizing, “If a threat is identified, we can intervene suddenly, in one night… we have the capability.”

Erdogan‘s remarks come after ongoing clashes between Turkish-backed factions and the Syrian Democratic Forces in the rural area of Manbij, northern Syria, resulted in more than 100 deaths over two days, up to the early hours of Sunday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had earlier on Monday stated that eliminating fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Syria is “only a matter of time.”
He added: “The situation in Syria has changed. We believe that eliminating the PKK/People’s Protection Units (YPG) is only a matter of time.”
