Official: Saudi Arabia’s aims to protect women’s rights


The Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council Dr. Hala al-Twaijri stated on Friday that Saudi Arabia is engaged to following legislative and procedural procedures to guarantee that the rights of women in the Kingdom are protected.

Al-Twaijri stated during the 65th session of the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) that the Kingdom seeks to remove all forms of discrimination against women and backing their complete participation in the development of the country.

She said that the aims to enhance women’s status and guarantee that their rights are protected are in accordance with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan.

Indeed, Vision 2030 constitutes many economic reform plans presented by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that comprises modifications, which help Saudi Arabian women to go ahead in many fields.

According to al-Twaijri, Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 comprises a comprehensive national plan for development, such as the National Transformation Program with the aim to increase women’s participation in the work market to 25 percent in 2020.

Al-Twaijri said that the Kingdom surpassed the target by 31 percent by the end of 2020, indicating that Saudi Arabian women are working in many leadership positions in several fields last year.

Besides, the secretary general informed Saudi Press Agency that the aim of the UN’s CSW session was to affirm the active role of women, guarantee their rights, support and empowerment.

She also said that the session also emphasized the importance of protecting women from violence and any obstruction to their progress.
