Will Britain remain a safe haven for the Muslim Brotherhood? Warning over their growing influence

As the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence continues to expand in the United Kingdom, experts and politicians are issuing urgent warnings about the danger the group poses to democratic values and to moderate Muslim communities.

In an article published by LBC Radio, British political analyst Ghanem Nuseibeh stressed that since its founding in 1928, the Brotherhood has pursued its slogan “Islam is the solution” by embedding itself within Western societies, including Britain.

He explained that the movement relies on a dual strategy: first, to mobilize popular support through the management of mosques, sports clubs, and language schools in order to become part of the social fabric; second, to increase its influence by penetrating local governments and institutions to shape public policy. Ultimately, their agenda aims at establishing a caliphate.

Nuseibeh pointed to the French experience, where an official report warned of the Brotherhood’s “gradual infiltration,” prompting President Emmanuel Macron to demand countermeasures. He noted that a similar process is taking place in Britain, though London lacks a clear strategy.

He further highlighted that Turkey, once a refuge for the Brotherhood, has begun cracking down on them, driving many members to relocate to Britain. Meanwhile, a 2015 UK report rejected banning the organization, in contrast with several Arab countries that have designated it as terrorist — a decision that raises questions about Britain’s “open-door” policy.

To address this threat, Nuseibeh called for a comprehensive study of the Brotherhood’s activities in Britain, modeled on the French report, coupled with a concrete action plan to counter the “security threat” they pose. He criticized the current Labour government for overlooking the issue, while praising former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s decision to deny entry to the Brotherhood’s former spiritual leader, Yusuf al-Qaradawi. He also warned that efforts to redefine “Islamophobia” are part of the Brotherhood’s strategy to criminalize criticism of Islamism and to frame the West as hostile to Islam, thereby strengthening their influence.

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, has pledged to ban the Muslim Brotherhood and classify it as a terrorist organization if he becomes Prime Minister — a stance that reflects the growing Western trend to confront the group.
