U.S. official reveals Iran’s position on the Hamas disarmament agreement

A U.S. official has revealed Iran’s position regarding the agreement accepted by Hamas that outlines the future of the Gaza Strip.

The American official, speaking to Reuters, explained that Iran had attempted to persuade Hamas not to approve the agreement, adding that Washington had nevertheless succeeded in overcoming that opposition.

The agreement, reached by the Peace Council with mediation from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, consists of twelve provisions and defines the future of the Gaza Strip, including Hamas’s disarmament.

The U.S. official stated that Washington is confident that Israel will comply with the terms of the agreement, noting that “if Israel does not approve it, Trump will be disappointed.”

He clarified that the United States is not asking Israel to accept anything that was not already included in the previous plan, referring to the twenty-point agreement that ended the war in Gaza and was signed in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh in Sinai.

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Peace Council had reached a historic agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed factions in Gaza.

The American president described the agreement as a decisive step toward finally placing Gaza under the authority of a new Palestinian government.

Israeli Channel 12 also reported that U.S. officials had confirmed Hamas’s acceptance of the provisions concerning the disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza.

The following are the main provisions of the Peace Council agreement on Gaza, according to Israeli Channel 12:

  • One government, one legal system, and one legitimate security authority in Gaza.
  • All heavy and light weapons will be dismantled over a period of six to eight months.
  • Hamas will provide maps of its tunnel network, weapons production facilities, and storage depots.
  • Implementation will be gradual, and the new technocratic government will not assume control over any part of Gaza until its demilitarization has been verified.
  • A new Palestinian police force, composed of thousands of Palestinians vetted by the Israeli security service (Shin Bet), will be trained and deployed in areas administered by the National Committee for Gaza’s governance.
  • Hamas’s weapons will be stored under the supervision of the National Committee for Gaza’s administration and the international stabilization force scheduled to be deployed in the territory.
  • Anti-Hamas militias armed by Israel during the war will be disarmed and dismantled.
  • Fighters who voluntarily surrender their personal weapons will be entitled to financial compensation through a weapons buyback program.
  • Hamas members will receive a general amnesty and will be allowed to remain in the Gaza Strip.
  • Israel will withdraw to the “Yellow Line,” where its forces were positioned following last October’s ceasefire. Since then, the Israeli army has reoccupied certain areas west of that line.
  • Any additional Israeli withdrawal will depend on the implementation of the agreement and will occur only after Hamas has surrendered its weapons.
  • Israel will halt targeted killings of Hamas members in Gaza, except in cases where it perceives an imminent threat.
