Abdelrahman Abu Diya: the ghost running the Muslim Brotherhood’s media and financial empire from Britain

Nicknamed “the ghost” and “the man in the shadows,” his name has remained present for years within organizational and media circles linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, despite his complete absence from public life and the lack of any publicly available personal photographs.

He is Abdelrahman Abu Diya, a senior figure long known within Brotherhood circles by the pseudonym “Abu Amer.” Sources stated that he played multiple roles in organizational and media affairs over the past decades.

Numerous accounts concerning “Abu Amer” have circulated in recent years, yet most have provided only limited information about his identity and background. According to informed sources, he has remained out of the spotlight, despite being credited with a role in managing the Muslim Brotherhood’s media apparatus, alongside involvement in other activities linked to the organization.

Abdelrahman Abu Diya is of Palestinian origin and currently resides in the United Kingdom, of which he is a citizen.

The mystery behind the absence of his photographs

According to the sources, Abu Diya follows an extremely discreet approach in his movements and meetings. He only meets with a select group of individuals within the organization and employs special security measures to prevent his image from becoming public, which explains the absence of clear and widely circulated photographs.

Some of the photographs attributed to Abdelrahman Abu Diya were allegedly leaked by Abu Diya himself and do not represent his true appearance.

The secret behind his fortune

As for the origins of his immense wealth, the same sources claim that “Abu Amer” managed vast financial portfolios worth billions of dollars on behalf of Iranian businessmen while residing in the United Kingdom.

He is said to have benefited from the financial and economic sanctions imposed by the United States and Western countries on Tehran, a situation that contributed to the expansion of his wealth.

Through an extensive network of relationships, he allegedly expanded his investments under circumstances described as suspicious. Today, he reportedly manages substantial financial assets and works alongside several businessmen, mainly from India and Pakistan, as well as members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist movements, within a network characterized by financial and organizational connections.

According to the sources, part of the funds managed by Abu Diya is allegedly linked to the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood, while another portion belongs to businessmen and investors from various countries in the region, through financial mechanisms allegedly used to finance destabilizing activities.

The sources also noted that Abdelrahman Abu Diya’s rise to a position overseeing Brotherhood-linked assets cannot be separated from his relationships within the movement, his ties with businessmen and officials in several countries, and the roles attributed to him over many years.

Youssef Nada: the key figure behind his rise

In explaining Abu Diya’s ascent, the sources highlighted the role of Youssef Nada, the former head of international relations for the Muslim Brotherhood, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Abu Diya’s career.

According to the sources, Abu Diya worked closely with Nada for many years while simultaneously pursuing activities in the manufacturing sector.

His investments, however, are said to extend far beyond that field, encompassing a broad network of commercial and financial companies, in addition to hotel holdings in several regional countries.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s media empire

Regarding media affairs, the sources stated that Abdelrahman Abu Diya’s name has been prominently associated with managing the technical aspects of the Muslim Brotherhood’s media network, while emphasizing that his responsibilities extend far beyond media operations.

In this context, they claim that he is the leading technical manager of the Brotherhood’s media system, responsible for providing services to media companies, equipping satellite broadcasting studios, securing channel frequencies on satellites, and overseeing broadcasting, production, and other technical services.

The sources also indicated that he provides organizational services for conferences and events linked to institutions affiliated with or close to the movement.

According to the same sources, “Abu Amer” owns a media company called “Noon,” which is connected to several television channels and media platforms, including Al-Hiwar and Mekameleen, as well as other outlets such as Palestine’s Al-Quds TV and Yemen’s Suhail TV, which the sources describe as part of a media network linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

In addition, he reportedly owns or invests in several digital platforms, including the English-language website Middle East Eye and the platform Mazid, which specializes in expanding content reach across social media networks.

According to informed sources, his role extends beyond founding such platforms to include managing certain media institutions, influencing the selection of their leadership, restructuring ownership arrangements, and transferring funding through a network of close associates.

Among the names mentioned by the sources is Nihaya Al-Tunaiji, who is said to hold a stake in Al-Sharq television channel, owned by Ayman Nour, in addition to playing a role in financing other media entities in coordination with Abdelrahman Abu Diya.
