The leader of the terrorist group al-Chabab gives in to the Somali army
New al-Chabab leader surrenders to Somali army as part of intensive military operations targeting militia strongholds.
A senior al-Chabab commander surrendered to the Somali army on Thursday in Baidoa, the capital of southwestern Somalia, the official Somali News Agency reported.
Terrorist leader Mohammed Nour Mohammed is “responsible” for collecting royalties from farmers and shepherds.
According to the source, the terrorist leader had been a member of the organization for seven years and had participated in battles with the movement’s militants against the Somali army.
The news agency quoted the terrorist as saying that he defected because of “the injustice and looting practices of militias against innocent citizens”.
Recently, leaders at various levels of al-Chabab surrendered to the Somali government after the army intensified its military operations against the strongholds of the terrorist organization.
On Tuesday, al-Chabab launched a mortar attack on a military base in Somalia’s northeastern Barre region.
“According to Somali media, militias fired 15 shells at the base in Puntland Province, but Somali security forces quickly responded to the source of the rockets.”
Security officials confirmed that there were no casualties in the terrorist attack, while forces carried out extensive sweeps in the village of Af Ur where the attack took place.
