Ceasefire in Gaza: A UAE Roadmap towards “Sustainable Peace”

The UAE welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, while addressing several messages forming a roadmap toward a sustainable resolution for this issue.

In his statement, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, justice, and ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people.

This statement crowns ongoing diplomatic efforts to support a truce in Gaza and pave the way for a serious political prospect to achieve comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. These efforts are accompanied by continuous humanitarian aid through the “Operation Gallant Knight 3” to mitigate the repercussions of the ongoing war in the region since October 2023.

UAE Roadmap

The UAE has consistently expressed its full support for mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach an agreement to end the tragic situation in Gaza. These efforts culminated in the announcement of a ceasefire as part of a comprehensive agreement.

The agreement includes a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas in Gaza, and the release of Israelis held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, following specific phases and mechanisms.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed the UAE’s satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing the hope that it would end suffering, prevent further loss of life, and address the humanitarian crisis in the region.

He highlighted several principles constituting the UAE’s roadmap towards a sustainable solution:

  1. Adherence to Commitments: Both parties must uphold the agreements made to end the suffering of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees.
  2. Immediate and Sustainable Humanitarian Aid: Ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian assistance to affected populations over the past 15 months.
  3. International Support for the Peace Process: End illegal practices threatening the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
  4. Steadfast Commitment to Peace: The UAE remains committed to promoting peace, justice, and the rights of Palestinians.

UAE’s Consistent Support

Over recent months, the UAE has strengthened its support for mediation efforts. Recently, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, reaffirmed this commitment in discussions with international leaders, highlighting the need for a lasting ceasefire and adequate humanitarian assistance.
