Erdogan’s corruption continues to kill Turks… Two people drown inside a tunnel he opened 3 months ago

After a devastating earthquake struck Turkey more than a month ago, compounding the number of victims due to corruption in amnesty laws for substandard buildings, in return for Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Turkish authorities receiving money in exchange for turning a blind eye to construction disasters, two people drowned after being trapped by floodwaters inside a bridge tunnel built three months ago, due to lack of drainage channels.

Circumstances of the incident

Turkey’s English-language newspaper, Bianet, revealed that the Transit Bridge Tunnel in the completely submerged city of Urfa, witnessed the exhumation of the bodies of two persons reached after a water-pulling car had done its work in a tunnel, and that one person who was able to swim out survived to become a symbol of the country’s disastrous construction on social media.

Erdogan at the opening

The mayor of the Urfa municipality left after protests against him, because the water expenses in the tunnel were not working and it was not possible to draw the floodwater, although the opening ceremony of the tunnel was held three months ago, specifically on 3 December 2022, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated in it, as well as the Turkish Minister of Interior and Minister of Finance.

The contract to build a tunnel was awarded to a company named Ohitan for 104 million pounds in March 2022. The company is a subsidiary of Gürbaław Group, which built a tunnel.

Erdoğan Honored Those Involved

Khalil Bajbin, the group’s CEO, was selected on the list of the “Top 250 Contractors”, a scientist by the Turkish magazine Engineering News-Record, and the award was presented to him by Erdogan.

Deadly floods

At least 14 people were killed and five others were missing late Wednesday as flash floods hit several earthquake-affected areas in southeastern Turkey, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said.

Local media said the death toll is likely to rise as several more people are still believed to be missing.
