In a Treehouse… An Octogenarian Leads an “Unconventional” Lifestyle
An elderly Turkish citizen, who is over 80 years old, has been living a unique lifestyle ever since he built himself a treehouse on a giant pine tree in the garden of his home.
Adam Karagul, 84, resides in the Chamköy region of Düzce Province in northwestern Turkey.
The wooden treehouse he built in 2020, and the time he spends there after retiring, have made him the talk of the town.
To support his new way of life, the elderly man built a ladder to access the treehouse and a pulley system to deliver food and tea from the house below up to the treehouse.

The Düzce Municipality treats Karagul in a special way, different from the other residents of the area, due to his unusual place of residence. Recently, they sent him a crane and workers to raise a flag above his treehouse for the celebration of Turkish national holidays.
Karagul’s fame has grown with his story of facing death. Following a dream, he bought a burial plot the next day and erected a headstone with his name and birthdate, leaving the date of death blank.
Local media have shared recent pictures of the man, who still lives in his treehouse, occasionally descending to do some exercises in his garden or visit his burial site after coming to terms with death following his famous dream.
Karagul says he climbs up to his treehouse after exercising, entertained by his bird visitors in his high perch on the tall pine tree.
