Qatari-Turkish security cooperation in the 2022 World Cup – Details
Turkey and Qatar have held security cooperation talks as part of preparations for the 2022 World Cup.
Talks between the Turkish and Qatari delegations dealt yesterday in Doha with “aspects of joint cooperation during the World Cup hosted by Qatar next November”, according to the official Qatari news agency.
The Turkish and Qatari interior ministries previously signed an agreement to organize major events, which includes Turkey’s participation in the World Cup security organization.
On December 9th, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu announced that his country would send 3,000 policemen to participate in securing the World Cup in Qatar.
In a press statement on January 18, 2022, Soylu said: “His country will send 3,250 security personnel to Qatar to help secure the 2022 World Cup, adding that Ankara also trained Qataris on this task before the World Cup”.
Speaking at an event in the southern port city of Antalya, Soylu said: “An additional 3,000 security forces and others will be deployed during the event, in addition to 100 members of the Special Forces unit, 50 bomb-sniffing dogs with trainers, 50 bomb disposal experts and others”, the Deutsche Presse Agentur reported.
Between November 21st and December 18th, 2022, Qatar will host the World Cup soccer tournament with the participation of 32 teams.
