Removal of 16 million terrorist contents and closure of 445 extremist channels on Telegram.. Details


Joint efforts between the Global Center for Combating Extremist Thought “Itidal” and the “Telegram” platform, during the first quarter of the current year 2024, resulted in the closure of 445 extremist channels and the removal of 16 million extremist contents for three terrorist organizations.

“For the third consecutive year, “Itidal” and “Telegram” have succeeded in combating the promotional activities of three terrorist organizations (ISIS – Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham – Al-Qaeda), with the removal of 11,634,102 extremist contents and the closure of 187 extremist channels for the terrorist organizationISIS“, while 3,227,272 extremist contents were removed, and 186 channels were closed for Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, and 1,635,241 extremist contents were removed and 72 extremist channels belonging to Al-Qaeda were closed.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the cooperation between the Global Center for Combating Extremist Thought (Itidal) and the “Telegram” platform in February 2022 until March 2024, a total of 75,388,319 extremist contents have been removed, while 13,533 extremist channels have been closed, used to broadcast extremist promotional activities.

Among the targeted items are multimedia files – PDF files, videos, and audio recordings – uploaded by groups on “Telegram” to public “Telegram” channels, with the cooperation agreement aimed at protecting platform users from extremist content and ideological effects, as well as attempts to exploit the content sharing space.

In August, the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office praised the efforts of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Thought “Itidal” in combating certain ideologies, praising the practical knowledge of the Global Center on various extremist groups.
