Signing the establishment of the first solar power generation project in Aden

The UAE capital Abu Dhabi witnessed the signing of a joint cooperation agreement between the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to provide the temporary capital Aden with a solar power plant with a total capacity of 120 mega.

The agreement was signed by Yemen’s Minister of Electricity Maneh Bin Yamin, Aden’s interim authority representing Minister of State and governor Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, and the United Arab Emirates’ Fawaz al-Mahmari, acting head of the company’s clean energy department at Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar CEO Mohammed Jamil al-Ramhi.

The agreement includes the construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 120 megawatts per hour. The agreement also includes the construction of transmission lines and transformative plants for transporting and distributing the energy the plant will generate, in addition to a number of clauses related to conditions and obligations between the two parties.

The project is considered the first and largest strategic project for generating electricity through clean and renewable energy in Yemen. It will reduce the cost of generating electricity during daylight hours as well as the need for fuel for generating plants and contribute to conserving the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

Following the signing of the agreement, Bin Yamin confirmed that surveys on the plant began about a month ago, noting that efforts are under way to complete the project as soon as possible.

Lamlas stressed the strategic importance of the project, praising the unlimited support provided by the UAE’s brothers to rehabilitate the infrastructure in the temporary capital Aden.
