The death of a crew member of a helicopter that crashed off the coast of Norway
Coordination centers for joint rescue operations in Norway announced the rescue of 6 crew members after their helicopter crashed and fell into the sea.
The largest hospital in the region, Haukeland University Hospital, reported that it received the six individuals, but their medical conditions were not yet clear before the company announced in a statement via the “X” platform the death of one of them.
Heidi Wolff Heimark, managing director of the Norwegian company “Bristow,” told the daily newspaper “Stavanger Aftenblad” today that the helicopter is owned by her company.
The Norwegian company “Bristow” transports crews to and from oil and gas platforms in the North Sea.
An official in the rescue service told TV2 that the area was experiencing strong winds at the time of the accident.
Flight movement data showed several rescue helicopters flying near the island of West Bergen, the second-largest city in Norway and a busy hub for the Norwegian offshore oil and gas industry.
In 2016, an Airbus helicopter of the “Super Puma” model crashed while returning from the North Sea in the same region, resulting in the death of all 13 people on board.
The incident led to the suspension of the use of this type of helicopter in the Norwegian oil and gas industry.
