Medics are alerting about the propagation of coronavirus infections in the southern Yemeni governorate of Taiz that was aggravated rigorously in recent days, while the situation is deteriorating severely under the continuing Houthi blockade.

In fact, Taiz recorded, for the fourth day, record daily coronavirus infections compared to other Yemeni governorates. The governorate that Houthis controlled a part while; other part run by the UN recognized Yemeni government, registered 29 new cases last Tuesday, when a total of 94 cases had been recorded over six government-held governorates, including Taiz.

583 cases since the beginning of 2021

The deputy information manager at the Health Ministry office in Taiz said that newly diagnosed cases reached the infection total in the governorate to 583 since the start of 2021.

Tayseer al-Samei indicated that Taiz registered five coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, which increasing the governorate’s death total to 62. About 43 recoveries were registered that day.

Otherwise, deprived access to hospitals and isolation centers in the governorate has put Taiz at the top of governorates fighting to stop the propagation of the pandemic.

Health workers alerted that more deaths and infections are very probable to be registered in the hard-hit governorate, particularly that certain case are remain undiagnosed because of the lack of medical services there.

The alarm situation in Taiz

Indeed, more than 25 physicians and health workers have formally indicate the alarm situation in Taiz and affirmed that the governorate’s medical infrastructure is not sufficient to confront the propagation of the virus. They estimated that the governorate would soon totally lose control of the situation as the inadequacies of its health capabilities.

Local medics informed Asharq Al-Awsat: In Taiz, the health situation is gradually sliding towards the abyss, particularly which it continues to top the list of Yemeni governorates in terms of the highest rate of recorded coronavirus infections and deaths. Moreover, officials also affected by coronavirus as the rapid and unprecedented spread of the pandemic in Taiz.
