Tunisian President Attacks the Muslim Brotherhood: “Their Illusions Will Never Become Reality”

Tunisian President Kais Saied delivered strong messages against the Muslim Brotherhood, describing their attempts to undermine the state as “mere fantasies.” He asserted that reality prevails and that the state will remain steadfast in the face of adversity.

This statement was made during a meeting at the Carthage Palace with:

  • Chokri Ben Naceur, Director General of Tunisian Television (public),
  • Henda Ben Alaya Ghribi, Director General of Tunisian Radio (public),
  • Najeh Messaoui, CEO of Tunis Afrique Presse Agency (public),
  • Saïd Ben Krim, Director General of “SNIPE La Presse” (public),
  • Mohamed Ben Salem, Delegate of “Dar Assabah” (seized by the state).

According to a statement from the presidency, Kaïs Saïed emphasized the role of the media in Tunisia’s national liberation process following the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood regime, particularly in combatting rumors and false allegations.

He urged the media to reclaim its role, especially in the face of “fabricated rumors and sponsored pages, both domestically and internationally, whose only goal is to spread lies that no one believes anymore.” He also criticized “certain individuals, both inside and outside Tunisia, who still cling to illusions of fragmenting and dividing the state”, referring to the Ennahdha Movement, which is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

He stressed the importance of “shedding the remnants of the past and abandoning outdated concepts that have lost their relevance. Those who keep looking back must understand that the past is gone forever.”

The president also discussed the national liberation process at length and highlighted the crucial role of public media in this context. He clarified that the objective “is not to promote one political faction over another, but rather to serve the nation and the state.”

Pages affiliated with Ennahdha have recently intensified their disinformation campaign on social media, spreading numerous rumors aimed at destabilizing Tunisia’s security and stability.

Among the rumors being circulated:

  • Allegations about President Kais Saied’s health,
  • Speculations regarding the inner workings of power at Carthage Palace,
  • Claims about the conditions of imprisoned Muslim Brotherhood members,
  • False reports of Tunisian judges fleeing the country.

They have also been sharing old footage of protests to encourage Tunisians to take to the streets.

Observers believe that this disinformation campaign is designed to “sow confusion and undermine Tunisia’s stability.”
