U.S. Arrests Two of the “Most Dangerous” Drug Lords

U.S. authorities have announced that two of the top leaders of the Mexican drug cartel “Sinaloa,” including co-founder Ismael Zambada García, were arrested Thursday in Texas.

According to “AFP,” Attorney General Merrick Garland stated in a release: “Today, in El Paso, Texas, Ismael Zambada García, also known as ‘El Mayo,’ co-founder of the cartel, and Joaquín Guzmán López, one of the sons of the other co-founder, were arrested.”

The Attorney General described the cartel as “one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world.”

Joaquín Guzmán López is the son of the Mexican drug lord “El Chapo,” who co-founded the Sinaloa cartel and is currently serving a life sentence in the United States.

The Attorney General explained that “El Mayo” and the son of “El Chapo” are facing prosecution in the U.S. on charges of manufacturing and trafficking fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid.

Garland stated: “Fentanyl is the deadliest threat our country has ever faced, and the Department of Justice will not rest until the cartel leaders, their members, and their associates responsible for poisoning our community are held accountable for their actions.”

The Sinaloa cartel is named after the state from which “El Chapo” hails in northwestern Mexico.
