UAE humanitarian hand in Afghanistan saves thousands
One initiative after another strengthens the UAE’s humanitarian role on a global level, not the last of which was Friday’s agreement to host 5,000 Afghan nationals evacuated from Afghanistan before they could go to other countries.
Between hosting and evacuation, the UAE’s humanitarian hand continues to operate with efficiency witnessed by all, having facilitated the evacuation of 8,500 foreigners from Afghanistan using its aircraft and through its airports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that the United Arab Emirates, at the request of the United States of America, will temporarily host Afghan citizens before they travel to other countries.
The Afghan nationals who have been evacuated to the UAE from the capital Kabul in the coming days will be flown out by US aircraft.
“This humanitarian initiative comes as the UAE has recently facilitated the departure of dozens of flights carrying hundreds of foreign nationals from Afghanistan, including diplomats, staff of various nationalities and NGO workers, to the country’s airports.”
International guidelines
International tributes continue UAE’s humanitarian efforts in Afghan crisis, as world marks Humanitarian Day on August 19 each year.
This international tribute and this global celebration comes at a time when the history of humanity is being recorded in letters of light, as are the initiatives and efforts of the UAE to provide relief to people in need around the world.
The white hands of the UAE extended to provide relief to all peoples in difficult circumstances, within the framework of its strategy of human fraternity, which prioritizes “human first” without discrimination, based on geography, race or religion.
That humanitarian strategy has become evident during the current Afghan crisis, on more than one level and at more than one level.
In this regard, the UAE has received former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his family in the country on humanitarian grounds.
The UAE has also helped several countries evacuate nationals from Afghanistan under current circumstances.
The United Arab Emirates has become a focal point in the evacuation effort from Afghanistan, as part of its humanitarian effort to facilitate all parties under those circumstances.
On Thursday, Australia thanked the UAE for its role in the evacuation of Australian nationals from Afghanistan.
This came in a phone call to Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane from Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
The United Kingdom thanked the United Arab Emirates for its support in the evacuation of British and Afghan nationals from Afghanistan.
Sheikh Abdallah ben Zayed Al Nahyane, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Dominic Raab, British Foreign Secretary, made the remarks during a meeting with Sheikh Abdallah ben Zayed Al Nahyane.
On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab spoke with UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheik Abdallah ben Zayed Al Nahyane and thanked him for the UAE’s support in sending British military personnel to Afghanistan and returning British and Afghan nationals who have assisted the UK’s efforts over the past 20 years.
The British thanks to the UAE comes two days after a similar French thanks, as French Minister of the Army Florence Parly praised the UAE’s efforts in helping evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan in the current circumstances.
This came during a phone call, on Monday, received by the UAE Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohamed Ben Ahmed El Bouardi from the French Minister of Armies.
Humanitarian capital
The UAE’s noble and authentic values were also clearly reflected in the UAE’s humanitarian stance in that crisis.
According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UAE received former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his family on humanitarian grounds.
The former Afghan president was driven out of the country by the Taliban takeover.
Sultan Mohammed al-Shamsi, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Development Affairs, said the initiative is evidence of the UAE’s commitment to enhancing international co-operation, especially in times of need.
“The UAE has always sought peaceful and multilateral solutions and is keen to continue to work with international partners to advance efforts to help the Afghan people during this period,” he said.
The continued international praise for the UAE’s efforts culminated in 50 years of humanitarian achievements since the UAE was founded, during which the volume of UAE foreign aid reached 320 billion dirhams in 201 countries.
“The UAE has succeeded in making the difference in humanitarian work, which has translated into the fact that for many years it has been the world’s number one foreign aid donor relative to its national income.”
Increasing humanitarian efforts and international praise continue to consolidate the UAE’s position as a humanitarian and cultural capital with specific achievements and initiatives.
