UAE strongly condemns terrorist attack on Mogadishu hotel
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing and wounding innocent people.
In a statement carried by the official WAM news agency, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the UAE “expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism that aim to destabilize security and stability and are incompatible with religious and humanitarian values and principles”.
The Ministry also expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous crime and its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.
According to eyewitnesses, gunfire continues between gunmen from the terrorist group al-Shabaab and security forces following an attack on a hotel in central Mogadishu.
Media reports said at least 10 people were killed, including civilians and military personnel, and more than 20 were wounded.
More than 30 people were rescued by security forces while others remained hostages in the hotel.
The hotel will be four stories high, with terrorists fighting on the fourth floor and security forces conducting the final stages of the security operation.
