UAE supports Yemeni residents of Shabwah – Details


The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Work has launched the first phase of the operation of the largest hospital in Shabwah province in the Republic of Yemen, as part of the humanitarian initiatives of the United Arab Emirates to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis and provide them with comprehensive care.

According to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM), the inauguration was followed by the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and President of the Khalifa Foundation, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the presence of a UAE delegation, the Governor of Shabwa, Awad bin al-Wazir al-Awlaki, and a number of senior officials.

A source at the Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation said: “The humanitarian and development projects of the United Arab Emirates, which are spread all over the world, contribute to the promotion of comprehensive development and have a positive impact on the improvement of the lives of peoples, especially the health sector, which is one of the most important reasons for the progress and development of society and is the first priority for States in the development process”.

The source added that the opening of the Shabwa General Hospital aims to strengthen health care services in the province, facilitate access to them, improve their quality and increase their effectiveness.

The Shabwah General Hospital has a capacity of 350 medical beds, and 100 beds have been equipped with all medical specialties in the first stage, in addition to 250 beds in the second stage.

Shabwah is the Republic of Yemen’s third largest province in terms of area and consists of 17 directorates.

The UAE’s aid to Yemen totaled around 22.97 billion dirhams from 2015 to 2021.

UAE aid to Yemen from 2015 to 2021 was distributed as follows: 10.94 billion dirhams in support of public programs, 4.54 billion dirhams in goods assistance, 2.67 billion dirhams in assistance to the health sector, 1.78 billion dirhams in assistance to the power generation and supply sector, 780 million dirhams in government and civil society assistance, 670 million dirhams in assistance to the transport and storage sector, 600 million dirhams in social services assistance, in addition to 980 million dirhams in various fields.
