UAE: Restrictions on movement in Taiz must be lifted

The United Arab Emirates has called on Houthi militias to immediately lift restrictions on movement in Taiz, renewing support for UN efforts to help the Yemeni people and establish security and stability.

Ambassador Mohammed Bushehab, deputy permanent representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, said during a meeting of the Security Council on the developments in Yemen, Monday, that the situation of the Safer oil tank must be urgently addressed to avoid an environmental disaster.

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said Houthi militias rejected a proposal he made to open roads in Taiz and other provinces in a briefing to the Security Council ‫session on the situation in Yemen.

The UN envoy expressed his regret that the Houthis continued the siege of Taiz for the seventh year, noting that he proposed opening the roads in stages based on a revised proposal, but the Houthi militias refused.

He said the agreement is important because road openings require coordination and continuous communication to ensure the safe and sustainable opening of roads to the civilian corridor, and urged the parties to participate in an urgent and constructive manner with UN efforts to reach an agreement on opening roads in Taiz and other provinces.
