UN voices express worries about Myanmar military menaces

On Friday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared that he was observing with great concern the developments in Myanmar, while military menaces and coup worries have dominated parliament’s planned opening.

In fact, increasing tension between the civilian government and the powerful military has provoked fears of a coup in the outcome of an election that the army state was false. Otherwise, the army reported that it plans to take action if there will no deal with its complaints about the election and a spokesman this week refused to rule out the possibility of seizing power.

In a statement, Guterres appealed all actors to desist from any form of incitement or provocation, demonstrate leadership, and to adhere to democratic norms and respecting the outcome of the 8 November general election.

He also said: All electoral disputes should be resolved through established legal mechanisms. However, in a separate statement, Western nations declared that they were looking forward to the peaceful convening of parliament on Monday.

Furthermore, the statement contracted by the embassies of Australia, Britain, Canada, the European Union and United States, said: We urge the military, and all other parties in the country to adhere to democratic norms, and we oppose any attempt to alter the outcome of the elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition.
