From Al-Zaytouna Mosque.. Tunisian president attacks “political Islam”

Tunisian President Qais Said launched an attack on the political movement of Islam during a visit to the Al-Zaytouna Mosque in the capital Tunis on Monday, one day before the start of Ramadan.

In an interview with the Grand Mosque Sheikh and the Mufti of the Republic, Said said, broadcast by the presidency of the Republic of Tunisia, that “God went to Muslims and believers, not to Islamists. The Prophet Ibrahim was a Muslim and not an Islamic. We are Muslims and thank God for the blessings of Islam, and we are not Islamists.”

He continued : “This is the major maneuver that is designed to divide the community. The issue was not an issue of Islam or non-Islam.”

In a speech delivered to the Tunisian people on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, Said criticized “the exploitation of some political forces for the month to achieve gains”. “May God protect us from Corona and from political epidemics.”

No official comment was issued by Al-Nahda Movement on the president’s speech, while their speaker called for what he called “reconciliation between parties and authorities during Ramadan”.

Meanwhile, Rafik Abdessalem, son-in-law of Ghannouchi, former foreign minister and leader of the movement, described the speech as “the intellectual and religious insanities and inclinations in God’s house on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.”

In a post he said the Tunisian president wants to “focus himself on the Great Emperor and the Great Ink, even on the skulls of Tunisians and Tunisians”..
