Widespread anger among Qataris over a video of Erdogan in Doha

The huge controversy sparked by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit since Monday, between secret talks and efforts to improve relations with Saudi Arabia and the depletion of Qatar’s coffers, did not stop until a video caused widespread anger among the people of Doha.

Videos circulating on social media of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s welcoming ceremony in Doha, Qatar caused huge anger among Qataris. Erdogan is seen walking through a Turkish state under his own, and was succeeded by Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Qataris expressed their strong dissatisfaction with the procession, which they described as “majestic” and the horsemen accompanying it, as if he were the ruler and the final commander in Doha, in a way that infuriated citizens with Tamim’s submission.

Activists circulated the video, with many commending the reception, as reported by state-run Qatar Radio. “The Emir of Qatar Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the seventh session of the Supreme Strategic Committee between Qatar and Turkey.”

The Turkish presidency also published a part of the ceremony and a parade of the honor guard in the presence of the Emir of Qatar, Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

This comes after a secret banquet hosted by the father of the Emir of Qatar, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, for Erdogan, which witnessed very important talks between Qatar and Turkey, and the plots hatched by each of them, where the two parties discussed several issues, foremost of which is joint economic relations, to save the lira, which has reached its lowest level recently, as Erdogan considers Qatar to be his treasury to solve financial crises.

The two sides also discussed the developments of the situation of the Brotherhood and its fate in the midst of the huge conflicts that the group is witnessing, and Turkey’s measures against them to restore relations with Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to Qatari and Turkish support for Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.

The visit comes at the invitation of Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to participate in the seventh meeting of the Supreme Strategic Committee between the two countries.

During the visit, Erdogan signed 15 agreements in areas ranging from media to disaster management and pledged to “explore further avenues” to strengthen economic ties and financial coordination.
