Abdullah bin Zayed meets Guterres… Security, Peace, and UN Security Council Account


On the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Secretary-General of the United Nations discussed several issues.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Antonio Guterres discussed the partnership between the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations, its agencies, and various programs in various fields, including humanitarian affairs, renewable energy, climate, and sustainable development.

The two sides reviewed the UAE’s membership outcomes in the United Nations Security Council during the period 2022-2023 and the prominent contributions of the country to multilateral efforts in the service of international peace and security. They also discussed the UAE’s immediate humanitarian responses to global challenges, in addition to its leading efforts and innovative initiatives to address many pressing challenges, with climate change at the forefront.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Guterres also discussed the UAE’s preparations to host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 28” in November and December next year in Dubai Expo.

In this regard, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized that the UAE believes that accelerating the global response to climate change and enhancing international peace and security are inseparable. During its hosting of COP28, the UAE looks forward to working with the United Nations and all countries in the world to transform climate change challenges into opportunities for sustainable economic development, contributing to safeguarding the future of future generations.

He added that the UAE has made climate change a cornerstone of its development strategy and has worked to implement many innovative and practical initiatives in collaboration with its partners around the world.

The two parties also discussed the situation in the Middle East, regional and global developments, and the challenges facing international peace and security. The UAE’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s consistent approach to working with the United Nations to strengthen global security, peace, and stability, support all efforts to find peaceful solutions to any conflicts, and focus on comprehensive and sustainable development paths that peoples look forward to.
