After Macron… French media changes its stance on the Gaza war… Details

In conjunction with the official French stance change, the French press has also undergone a radical shift in its approach to the ongoing conflict between Hamas and the Israeli army, including even the more ideologically inclined media outlets, which affirmed that Israel is on its way to a political loss in the al-Shifa Hospital battle, even if it prevails militarily.

The newspaper Le Point considered the Israeli military operation at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza as an intelligence failure, indicating that the evidence from the Israeli army does not yet prove the Palestinian medical facility was used as a military site by Hamas. This is despite the announcement of the discovery of the bodies of two abducted Israeli hostages on October 7, and the discovery of a hiding place leading to a tunnel used by the movement. The French newspaper mentioned that it cannot be ruled out that al-Shifa Hospital was a strategic site for Hamas during the 2014 war, but it is no longer the case today. It questioned, ‘Was the attack on al-Shifa Hospital a major mistake by Israeli military intelligence?’

L’Opinion did not rule out that this could be a deceptive operation by Hamas aimed at putting pressure on the Israeli army in the media and inciting public opinion against it, according to what the (24) website has observed.

On the other hand, Le Figaro, which initially ignored the victims of the Israeli bombing in Gaza, spoke about againstthe Israeli operation Shifa Hospital on both sides, stating that Israel is struggling to try to convince the domestic and international public opinion that its war is directed only against Hamas and not against the Palestinian people in Gaza. It noted that what has been published so far does not rise to the level of allegations and risks and does not provide evidence of Israel’s accusations.

For its part, L’Express appeared clearer and more direct, calling for an immediate cessation of the bombing of civilians in Gaza. It said in its editorial: The international pressure on Israel to stop the ceasefire is increasing, and its military strategy raises questions. The magazine also warned against the idea of turning Gaza into a ‘graveyard for children’ if international pressure on Israel does not increase to stop the shelling of civilians. It also sees Israel’s strategy in eliminating Hamas militarily as unrealistic.

French President Emmanuel Macron had urged Israel to stop the bombing that is killing civilians in Gaza in an interview with BBC, stating that there is no justification for the shelling that kills civilians in Gaza, including ‘children, women, and the elderly.’
