Has Tunisia turned the page on the Brotherhood – Details

The security authorities continue to investigate Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of Ennahdha, who is accused of conspiring against state security and of seeking to replace the state apparatus (a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment), and the Tunisian Ennahdha Movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, was forced to appoint Mondher Al-Ounissi as its interim president.

A difficult phase

Observers said the movement is currently undergoing an accounting phase for its practices during the 10 years it was in power. This coincides with the total collapse of its bases and supporters and the total failure of its political and social projects since 2011.

The movement’s headquarters were closed and its meetings banned; Shutting its communication with its members across the country confirms the isolation of the Brotherhood, as was the case under former presidents Habib Bourguiba and Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, and on the same charges related to the current anarchic trend of political Islam in the country.

Collapse the Brotherhood page

Oussama Aouidet, a political analyst and a leader in the Tunisian People’s Movement, said: “The page of the Muslim Brotherhood has been turned. Tunisians should look forward and not look back, while voices have been raised calling for opening all files and investigating all charges against the Brotherhood.”

In a statement, he said that the trial of Ennahda leaders would not have started without the exceptional measures taken by Kais Saied on July 25, 2021, which won wide popular support, and was explained by the events that followed the general national rejection of the terrorist group.

He said the Muslim Brotherhood is in danger of being definitively disbanded in light of the state of disintegration and internal crises that the terrorist group is currently undergoing.
