The secretary-general of Gulf Cooperation Council denounced threats by Iran to UAE

The GCC reported in a statement, on Sunday, that the secretary-general of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, denounced threats by the resident of Iran and other Iranian officials towards the United Arab Emirates about its deal with Israel to normalize relations.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani declared, on Saturday, that the UAE has made a huge mistake, because of the deal with Israel, denouncing what he called a betrayal by the Gulf state.

Moreover, the UAE reported on Sunday that such rhetoric was unacceptable and inflammatory and had serious implications for security and stability in the Gulf region.

The United Arab Emirates had previously minimized its ties with Tehran in January 2016 in the presence of fierce rivalry between close Emirati ally Saudi Arabia and the Islamic republic.
