Climate Action Intensification

As part of its ongoing efforts to intensify climate action and strengthen international cooperation to mitigate climate change impacts, the UAE participates in the “Climate Ambition Summit” hosted by the United Nations on September 20.

The summit aims to accelerate a just transition to a global economy capable of adapting to climate change.

This summit serves as a crucial milestone in climate action ahead of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled for later this year in Dubai.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized “the importance of the multilateral system, based on the UAE’s vision to create a better world for all.”

He added, “The UAE takes pride in the progress we have made in the areas of women’s empowerment, peace, and security and in deepening the understanding of the links between climate change, peace, and security.”

He continued, “As the world gathers at this forum to address critical challenges, including extremism, terrorism, climate change crises, global health, food security, and energy security, we look forward to contributing with our expertise, experience, and approach.”

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, said, “This session of the United Nations General Assembly convenes at a critical time for the international community.”

She explained that “its theme, titled ‘Rebuilding Trust and Reshaping Global Solidarity,’ reflects the world’s need to enhance multi-party cooperation to find urgent global solutions.”

She added, “The UAE has long been known for its leading role in building bridges, and we have sought to leverage our expertise in this area during our membership in the United Nations Security Council to create common ground and foster a conducive environment for sustainable cooperation.”
