Tunisia: Saied sends a message to the allies of the Brotherhood – Details

In the midst of a sharp disagreement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan over his interference in Tunisian internal affairs, Tunisian President Kais Saied sent several strongly worded messages to allies of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Ennahdha, its political arm in Tunisia.

The website of the Tunisian radio station Mosaic quoted Saied, while supervising the procession celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Internal Security Forces in the Carthage Palace on Monday: “Those who once were the opponents of the world today have become loyal ones, because their cause is based on considering power as a spoil”.

Tunisia is not for sale

“Tunisia is not for sale, and the sovereignty of the Tunisian state will never be traded or sold and bought”, the president said.

Referring to the Brotherhood’s unnamed allies, Saied said: “They want to play the lead roles… They are rolling and twisting every day”, stressing: “We are continuing to enable the sovereign people to express their will, unburdened by this political misery”.

The Head of State continued: “We are still on the pact, and neither the obstacles, nor the rumors, nor the illusions, which they propagate and which they think are real… Will not stop us from continuing on… We are on the path to a clear and visible popular legitimacy”.

As to the best way to deal with the Brotherhood and their allies, Saied said: “Only a legitimate popular prescription can reduce their sickness if a drug is of use to them”.

After the Muslim Brotherhood’s Ennahdha Movement, which is supported by the Turkish president, conspired against the will of the Tunisian people, Erdogan commented on Saied’s decisions last March to dissolve the House of Representatives, which Ennahdha had falsely taken the majority of, saying: “The dissolution of the elected parliament in Tunisia is a blow to the will of the Tunisian people”, an intervention that angered the Tunisian leadership and people.

Instead of paying attention to his country’s domestic situation and Turkey’s crumbling economy, Erdogan will dictate to the Tunisian people what to do in the current situation. Erdogan, who is facing charges of cracking down on dissent and protests in his country, said: “The transition process can only succeed through a comprehensive and meaningful dialog involving all segments of society, including the parliament that embodies the national will”.
