Yemen: Popular events against the Brotherhood in Shabwah
Crowds from the southern directorates of Shabwah province took part in a popular demonstration yesterday in Arama against the presence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the area.
Protesters demanded that Brotherhood militias in Arama be prohibited from establishing camps and that they be expelled from all parts of the province after they rebelled against local authority, Amanat.net reported.
In their protest, Arama residents said the eastern directorates are an integral part of Shabwah province and will not accept camps that are not under the authority of Shabwah.
Residents of the eastern districts of Shabwah province called on the presidential council to expel pro-Brotherhood rebels from the Arin district of Arama district, which borders Marib.
Tribal anger increased after pro-Brotherhood rebel forces set up camps in the Arin area between Shabwah and Marib governorates, after being expelled from Ataq for attempting a coup against legitimate local authority.
Many terrorists and gangs have resorted to this force after southern forces launched security campaigns in Abyan and Shabwah provinces last month.
At its last regular meeting, the Executive Council of Shabwah Transitional Authority affirmed its solidarity and full support for the tribes against the actions of Brotherhood forces in the desert region of Arin.
In a statement, Attaqi called on the Arab coalition to take a firm stance against these armed Muslim Brotherhood groups.
Sheiks and dignitaries of Hamir tribes in the southern districts of Shabwah province confirmed their support for the open sit-in in Arama district to demand that the Arab coalition and the Presidential Council expel the terrorist Brotherhood militia camps from the Arbeen area.
A statement issued by the Himeer tribes said that all residents of the directorates of Rudum, Mayfa’a, Rawda, and Habban supported the sit-in in the area of Arin. They demanded that the people of Shabwah be quick to respond to the demands of the people and the Brotherhood militias to leave, and that no camps be set up in the province.
Residents of Shabwah’s eastern directorates continued their open sit-in at the Arin junction for the second day in a row, demanding the removal of Brotherhood militia camps from the Arin area.
