Sudanese analyst: The situation in the country is catastrophic and we did not expect it to reach this extent

Rapid and unfortunate developments in Sudan since Saturday morning, with the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces; This has caused near-paralysis in all state facilities and left dozens of victims as of now. All estimates indicate terrifying scenarios if the fighting continues for a longer time.

Heightened warnings

A report by Roaya Network revealed that the past few hours have raised international and regional warnings and fears that the situation in Sudan would deteriorate further, especially that the current state of fighting is permanently damaging any political track, and poses a great danger to the Sudanese internal situation, which is threatened by division and fragmentation. Experts and analysts warned of the consequences of armed groups inside the country exploiting the current conflict situation for territorial gains.

High number of casualties

The death toll in Sudan since the outbreak of clashes has risen to at least 97 civilians, according to CNN, which cited the preliminary committee of the Sudanese Doctors Syndicate.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement released yesterday that more than 1,126 people have been injured in fighting across Sudan.

Events in Sudan have coincided with a war of data between the two sides in the conflict, and there are reports of forces mobilizing from both sides of the conflict around Khartoum TV.

Conflicting data

The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces announced that it is on its way to resolve what it called the people’s battle against what it called the remnants of the former regime, and the shadow battalions that are hiding behind a putsch by the leadership of the armed forces.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) confirmed on its Twitter account that it had scored victories, which it described as sweeping, following battles in the past two days.

“This resulted in the capture of ground forces headquarters, the defense ministry tower, the presidential palace and its surroundings, as well as of military divisional headquarters in Darfur states, military equipment and vehicles, as well as more than 200 tanks and the shooting down of three fighter jets.”

Dozens of senior RSF officers and non-commissioned officers have been captured and joined, the RSF statement said.

The Sudanese army said in a press statement that the Rapid Support Statement is full of lies, denying that their forces entered the Ministry of Defense or controlled the headquarters of the ground forces.

“The Sudanese military noted that there was no RSF control over army tanks, and no fighter jets were shot down.”

The Sudanese army announced the capture of the Merowe military airport, the Kordofan Sector Command, and the Egyptian Irrigation Camp in the Shajara suburb. It also reassured the people that the armed forces were coherent and would soon resolve the situation, and said that the Rapid Support Forces were targeting individuals with snipers.

“The general situation is stable, and there have been limited clashes at the General Command headquarters, the Sudanese army added.”

The situation is catastrophic

Sudanese writer and political analyst Abboud Al-Khalifa says the situation in Sudan is catastrophic and a peaceful solution has become a wish.

He added: He did not expect that things would reach this level in Sudan, what is happening is a catastrophic level of fighting in the center of the capital and among millions of safe people, and in my estimation all the increasing alarms and disagreements did not expect to reach this level.

He continued: “The fighting now is between civilians and civilians, and any talk will not take place until after the ceasefire. The Sudanese are counting a lot on the intervention of leaders at the Arab level, especially in Egypt and Saudi Arabia because their word is heard between the two sides of the fighting, and through it things can be calmed a little.”

He said there must be swift Arab action from leaders who have influence, presence, respect and appreciation from all parties.
