Tehran send new ambassador to Sanaa controlled by Houthi
The Iranian foreign ministry declared on Saturday that Tehran’s new ambassador to Yemen has arrived in the capital controlled by Houthi in the war-torn country and that five years after the last ambassador left.
Foreign ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh informed the Fars news agency that Hassan Eyrlou…ambassador for the Islamic Republic of Iran in Yemen, has arrived in Sanaa.
He also said, referring to an executive group constituted by Houthi rebels: He has presented his letters of credentials to Mehdi al-Mashat, head of Yemen’s supreme political council.
In fact, Iran supports the Houthis in the civil war on Yemen towards an internationally recognized government that is backed by the Arab Coalition. This recognized government has been founded in the second city of Yemen, Aden, for the past five years, after that the Houthis controlled the capital.
Otherwise, the predecessor of Eyrlou left Sanaa in September 2015 and Iran’s foreign ministry declared in October last year that the procedure of sending a new ambassador was interrupted by attacks on the embassy. Indeed, Iran is the only country that has diplomatic ties with the Houthis.
Furthermore, Fars didn’t indicate when or how the ambassador had arrived in Sanaa, however, the declaration came shortly after more than 1,000 prisoners were released in a historic exchange between the warring parties in Yemen.
