Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, launched on Sunday the joint project “Life Sciences and Vaccine Manufacture” in the UAE.
The project was launched between the UAE’s G-42 and China’s CNBG Group, according to WAM.
The UAE’s G-42 and China’s Sinopharm Group launched the first production line for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the UAE and China today are launching a new chapter in the history of their historic and exceptional relationship titled “Strategic Partnership for Humanity”.
“We celebrate the major achievements of our comprehensive and private strategic partnership on all levels and continue the work we have started together since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the UAE foreign minister said.
Pioneer model
“This work has been a pioneering example of joint co-operation between friendly countries in confronting challenges,” he said. “The benefits of this important project are not limited to the two countries, but include the whole world.”
The joint project, “Life Sciences and Vaccine Manufacture in the United Arab Emirates”, is a qualitative addition to global efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
“Today, we are taking a huge step in the journey to fight the new Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic,” said Liu Jinghin, chairman of the board of directors of the Chinese group CNBG in his speech at the ceremony. He noted that this pioneering project is the result of close cooperation and strategic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and China and their pioneering efforts in confronting this pandemic.
With this step, the UAE has paved the way for the registration, production and commercial provision of the Sinopharm vaccine, which represents the pioneering efforts of the two friendly countries to recover from this pandemic, he said.
We are proud to be partnering with the UAE’s G-42 in this new joint project, which will play an active role in addressing the UAE’s COVID-19 pandemic, the Arab world and the world, he said, adding that this project will make important contributions to the health and safety of communities.
Scientific revolution
Bing Chao, CEO of the UAE G-42 Group, said the new G-42 and Sinuvarm joint project will revolutionize life science and technology in the region in the coming years.
The UAE’s G-42 and China’s Sinopharm CNBG have made huge achievements since the beginning of 2020 thanks to their shared values and visions, he said.
He said the new industrial capabilities will allow us to respond quickly to domestic and international demand for the vaccine, and this is a major and globally important step in addressing the Coved-19 pandemic.
The two ministers held a model of the new vaccine and took commemorative photos on the occasion, as well as live video from the vaccine manufacturing site in the UAE.
Prior to the ceremony, Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Wang Yi, where they discussed the comprehensive and private strategic partnership between the UAE and China and ways to enhance and develop the prospects of joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
