Nominations for Sovereign posts in Libya
On Thursday, a committee at the Libyan parliament started the reception of the nominations of candidates wanting to assume sovereign positions in the country. Twelve candidates are competing for the posts and the deadline for submissions ends during the Next week.
Indeed, the parliament and High Council of State got a deal that define the requirements for the candidates in agreement with the broader political deal in the country that led to the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and new Presidential Council. The acceptance of the candidates would occur according to a power-sharing agreement between the parliament and High Council of State.
In the meantime, Presidential Council chief Mohammed al-Menfi stated on Wednesday that attaining national reconciliation was at the top of his priorities, indicating that it was the basis thing for establishing a united states that would conducted to the coexistence between the Libyan people.
Al-Menfi also greeted the liberation of Libyan National Army (LNA) prisoners who had been arrested by security authorities in Zawiya city, praising the reconciliation efforts made by the GNU, wishing that the liberation of the prisoners would indicates the beginning of a comprehensive national reconciliation, and demanding the release of all prisoners.
On his part, chief of the GNU, Abdulhamid Dbeibeh indicated that Libya’s future hinges on its ability to treat its wounds through national reconciliation and achieving justice.
Furthermore, he made a visit to the Defense Ministry, affirming the necessity to enhance the capabilities of the national army to impose the state’s sovereignty throughout Libyan territories, declaring that the military should be allied to the nation.
In the meantime, Speaker of the east-based parliament, Aguila Saleh held discussions on Wednesday with Chairman of the Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, highlighting his support to the commission and efforts to hold elections in December.
Besides, LNA commander Khalifa Hafter affirmed the necessity to hold the elections without delay, appealing the United Nations mission in Libya and the international community to commit for the country’s reconciliation.
Hafter also called for the need to lift political cover off all criminals and outlaws, regardless of their affiliations. He also underlined the importance of opening the littoral highway before the arrival of the holy fasting month of Ramadan in mid-April.
