Urgent Palestinian Appeal at the United Nations: Let This Madness Stop

Palestine’s representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, issued an urgent appeal, supported by Arab and Islamic countries in New York, calling for an end to what he described as “madness.”

Speaking during a press conference attended by the Arab Group at the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Mansour urged the United States to halt Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories.

Addressing reporters, he stated: “I know that President Donald Trump is capable and has the necessary tools to stop Benjamin Netanyahu, so that the entire region does not remain in a state of turmoil, and so that we can move toward peace and justice.”

He added: “We know that he recently told Netanyahu to stop this behavior in Lebanon and to put an end to this madness. You know that you have no right to annex land.”

The Arab Group at the United Nations joined the Palestinian envoy in expressing its “deep concern” and regional solidarity against the “rapid escalation” of Israeli settlement expansion and violence against Palestinians.

Speaking on behalf of the Arab Group, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, said: “Israel continues to implement policies that amount to accelerated annexation and the systematic dismantling of Palestinian rights.”

He added: “The Group affirms that the recent Israeli measures are not isolated incidents, but rather part of a coordinated strategy aimed at entrenching permanent control over Palestinian territories, altering the demographic and geographic reality on the ground, and eliminating the possibility of an independent, sovereign, viable, and territorially contiguous State of Palestine in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.”

Other representatives from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation also supported calls to halt Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories in the West Bank, where settlement expansion continues, and in Gaza, where the Israeli military controls at least half of the territory.

Speaking on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Fikriye Asli Guven, Deputy Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations, called on the Security Council to “take urgent and effective measures to halt all annexation activities, settlement expansion, forced displacement, and other unlawful practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and to ensure accountability in accordance with international law.”
