Revolutionary Guard issues harsh criticism of Araqchi

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launches a fierce attack on the foreign minister over his failure to deny Trump’s accusations that Tehran spread “fabricated” information about the agreement.

Media outlets close to the Revolutionary Guard carried out a sharp attack on Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Friday over his statements regarding the nearing conclusion of an agreement with the United States. This move reflects the growing influence of the Revolutionary Guard following the US-Israeli war on Iran, and its transformation into the main center of gravity in managing strategic dossiers and directing political and foreign decision-making.

Araqchi had urged the media to avoid speculation about the content of the memorandum of understanding with the United States, stressing that the agreement was closer than ever to implementation and that its details would be announced at the appropriate time.

The Fars News Agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guard, said the foreign minister’s position was marked by ambiguity, noting that he did not directly deny US President Donald Trump’s accusations that Iran had circulated “fabricated” information about the agreement. It argued that his remarks could be interpreted as indirect support for the American narrative.

The agency went further, questioning whether Araqchi’s approach reflected a shift in Iran’s position or a form of coordination with Trump’s narrative, suggesting that the vagueness of official statements could be interpreted as implicit acceptance of Washington’s claims.

This media escalation comes as Iran is engaged in intense internal debates over the final form of the agreement with the United States, amid multiple decision-making centers and the sensitivity of the file for the country’s security and military establishment.

Although Araqchi himself served in the Revolutionary Guard during the 1980s before moving into diplomacy, the criticism directed at him reflects, according to observers, the growing influence of the security-oriented current and the shrinking room for traditional diplomacy in the post-war phase that has reshaped priorities within the Iranian system.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said that talk of an imminent understanding with Washington is not new, explaining that the final text of the agreement is still undergoing internal review and that meetings between relevant institutions are ongoing.

He added that contradictory statements from the US side have been the main obstacle in recent months, denying any intention to withhold information from the public while stressing that the sensitivity of the diplomatic process requires a degree of discretion regarding its details.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier announced that a final agreed formula for a peace deal between the United States and Iran had been reached, while Donald Trump expected the memorandum to be signed with Tehran by the end of the week or early next week, stating that Iran had made a “secret apology” regarding what he described as the spread of false information about the terms of the agreement.

The ongoing debate within the Islamic Republic indicates that the post-war phase has not only strengthened the Revolutionary Guard’s position militarily and security-wise, but has also consolidated its growing role in shaping foreign policy directions, as the military establishment seeks to ensure that any understanding with Washington does not conflict with its strategic calculations and interests within the system.
