Exceptional Reception for Ibrahim Diaz in Morocco
Real Madrid star Ibrahim Diaz received an exceptional and warm welcome upon his arrival Monday at Rabat airport to join the Moroccan national team. This comes just a few days after he officially announced his decision to represent Morocco, his home country.
After months of speculation about which national team he would play for, Diaz, who holds dual Moroccan and Spanish citizenship, joined the Moroccan national team camp after being called up by coach Walid Regragui in preparation for the two friendly matches against Angola on March 23 and Mauritania on March 26.
Hundreds of Moroccan fans gathered at the airport square chanting the player’s name, while a large number of journalists awaited to speak with him before he joined the national team camp, as shown by videos and photos of the warm welcome Ibrahim Diaz received. On his X plateform account, the player wrote: “I would like to thank King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people for their support. I will give everything on the field for my national team.”
Born in Malaga, Spain, in 1999, Diaz joined the senior Moroccan national team after playing for Spanish youth national teams, and his name had been linked to a possible call-up to the Spanish national team, but he ultimately chose to play for the Lions of the Atlas.
