The United States Launches Strikes on Iran: Four Drones Shot Down and Launch Site Bombed

The U.S. military carried out new strikes on an Iranian military site on Thursday.

A U.S. official told Reuters that the targeted site posed a threat to American forces and to commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

He added, “The military intercepted and shot down several Iranian drones that posed a threat to U.S. forces and commercial maritime navigation.”

Iranian media had earlier reported hearing three explosions east of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, while air defenses were activated for several minutes.

The official explained that the U.S. military launched new strikes in Iran targeting a military site and shot down four one-way Iranian attack drones that posed a threat in the Strait of Hormuz region.

The official, who requested anonymity, said that the targeted military site was a ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was preparing to launch a fifth drone.

He stated, “These actions are measured and purely defensive, and are intended to preserve the ceasefire.”

The United States launched an attack against Iran on Monday, which Tehran considered a violation of the fragile ceasefire between the two countries.

U.S. Central Command stated that the targets included boats attempting to plant mines and missile launch sites.
