Psychiatrist Unveils the Link between Korean Dramas and Mental Health
Korean media reports, echoed by Arab and international newspapers, have highlighted the role of Korean dramas in improving viewers’ mental health. These series feature calm and realistic storytelling, blended with romantic plots that steer clear of crime and suspense. They are often accompanied by stunning natural landscapes and soothing background music that aids relaxation.
According to Korean mental health professionals, visual media, particularly Korean dramas, possess significant therapeutic properties that align well with psychological treatment.
Boosting Immunity
Korean doctors have been using this therapeutic approach since the 1940s, helping Korean dramas transition from local popularity to global recognition, as per media reports.
In this context, Dr. Gamal Faraweez, a psychiatry consultant, confirmed in exclusive statements to Erem News the positive impact of Korean dramas on mental health. He explained that dramas featuring romantic plots and natural landscapes – such as forests, rivers, and lakes – help improve mental well-being.
Dr. Faraweez elaborated: “This type of content provides a calming effect for the eyes, which, in turn, impacts the brain by stimulating the release of dopamine and serotonin. These hormones induce a sense of happiness and relaxation, thereby strengthening the body’s immune system.”
He also cited past studies conducted in England, which demonstrated that natural-themed decor in domestic settings contributes to improved mental health. These studies showed that natural surroundings provide visual comfort.
Treating Depression
Dr. Faraweez affirmed the validity of medical studies showing that Korean dramas enhance mental health. Their romantic and soothing nature, combined with breathtaking natural settings, fosters feelings of happiness and serenity.
As part of his approach to treating depression, he often advises patients to visit tranquil natural spots. “In Egypt, there are numerous natural areas that help improve mental health, particularly along the coastal road from Alexandria to the northern coast. The sea’s azure hue is incredibly soothing to the eyes and beneficial for mental well-being,” he added.
