After Al-Jawf… Southern Giants Brigades open a front in Al-Bayda, the heart of Yemen
The Southern Giants Brigades opened a new front in the Al-Bayda governorate on Monday, an area known as the “heart of Yemen,” just hours after Yemeni forces advanced in the Al-Jawf governorate.
Field sources said that the Giants Brigades had entered the first areas of Al-Bayda from the Al-Hadd Yafa front axis, which falls under Lahij governorate, in the latest battlefield advance by the forces against the Houthis.
They said the Giants Brigades had succeeded in breaching the Houthis’ first line of defense and advancing into the Al-Humayqan area in Al-Bayda governorate in an effort to liberate it from the Houthi militias.
According to the same sources, the Giants’ advance, which was carried out along several axes, reached the towns of Al-Majreesh and Dhi Amkhashab, both in the Al-Zahir district, near the border with Lahij governorate.
Al-Bayda occupies a highly important geographical position, sharing borders with eight governorates: four in the south — Shabwa, Al-Dhale’e, Abyan and Lahij — and four in the north — Marib, Sanaa, Dhamar and Ibb. An advance into the governorate therefore represents a significant blow to the Houthis.
The sources confirmed that the Giants Brigades “had taken control of all the hills and high ground overlooking Al-Zahir district from the direction of Al-Hadd Yafa district and were conducting extensive clearance operations in the areas of Al-Nasifa in preparation for advancing toward Dhi Na’im district and securing the areas adjacent to Na’wa in Al-Zahir district,” amid the collapse of Houthi positions.
On the active fronts in Taiz, the Taiz axis of the Yemeni army said that military aircraft had targeted Houthi reinforcements west of Taiz city. The convoy consisted of 21 vehicles carrying personnel, military equipment and 23 mm-caliber guns.
Airstrikes also targeted three Houthi vehicles in the Al-Kadaha front sector, while heavy fighting simultaneously erupted on the Al-Barh front in the western part of the governorate between the National Resistance and the Houthi militias.
The fighting, particularly in Al-Bayda, comes just hours after Yemeni forces and tribal fighters advanced in Al-Jawf governorate and liberated the Al-Labanat military camp, the eastern gateway to Al-Hazm, the governorate capital.
The Houthis launched heavy fighting along the western coast in an attempt to reach the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, leaving hundreds dead and wounded and bringing an end to a fragile UN-brokered truce that had been in place since 2022, thereby returning the situation to square one, according to observers.
