MASAM Removes 1,000 Landmines Planted by Houthis

MASAM, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s project for clearing landmines in Yemen, successfully removed last week 1,000 landmines and unexploded ordnance planted by Houthi militias in several regions.

Since the start of the project, around 300,000 landmines have been cleared.

The removed devices included seven antipersonnel mines, 641 anti-tank mines, 527 unexploded ordnance, and 9 explosive devices, according to MASAM.

In Aden, the MASAM team removed 54 anti-tank mines and 124 unexploded ordnance. In al-Jawf, the team cleared 547 anti-tank mines, two explosive devices, and one unexploded ordnance.

In Dhale, three antipersonnel mines were removed, while 90 unexploded ordnance were cleared in Al Khawkhah.

MASAM removed 139 unexploded ordnance in Lahij and two anti-tank mines in Marib. Moreover, 157 and six unexploded ordnance were respectively removed from Ataq and Usaylan.

The team demined one anti-tank mine, one unexploded ordnance and one explosive device in Al Waziyah.

In Mocha, a total of 21 anti-tank mines were removed in addition to 6 unexploded ordnance, while in Mawza a total of six anti-tank mines were removed.

In addition, four antipersonnel mines, 10 anti-tank mines, three unexploded ordnance, and six explosive devices were cleared in Dhubab.

This brings the total of removed mines in September to 2,679, and the total since the beginning of the project to 273,954.

The mines – planted by the Houthis – have killed innocent victims, including children, women, and elderlies.

MASAM affirmed that Saudi Arabia will continue to face the direct threats against Yemenis and to clear Yemeni territories of mines.
