Airlifts were finally resumed between Libya’s Benghazi and Misrata

On Tuesday, air travel between the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi and the western coastal city of Misrata were recommenced after a seven-year cease because of the instability in the country.

In fact, the reopening indicates the relative quiet that has spread in the North African country since a ceasefire deal that was concluded in October 2020 between warring sides.

Afriqiyah Airways affirmed that one of its air travels had left Benghazi and landed in Misrata on Tuesday morning. It also stated that it prepares for functioning four flights for a week to bring back the people of the nation together. Just after their landing, the passengers were very amiably welcomed in Misrata.

It should note that air travels were postponed between the main cities after the increase of confrontations between liberal and extremist factions in 2014. Also, the east-based Libyan National Army’s (LNA) 14-month attack against Tripoli in 2019 caused the disorder of flights between eastern and western Libya.

Among the conditions of the ceasefire deal is the demand for the reopening of the principal roads and internal flying ways.
