Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood journalist Jamal Rayyan was absent from the 25th anniversary of the founding of Al-Jazeera.
Following his absence, Rayyan posted an announcement on his Twitter page today, saying: “I’ll pause tweeting until further notice. Goodbye, nation’s honorable”.
A staff member at Qatar’s Al-Jazeera Channel revealed that Rayyan had already been invited to attend the concert, and the invitation was on its way to him, before the channel’s management received a call from officials stating that Rayyan would not be invited to attend.

The source added to Al-Arab Mubasher that Rayyan’s failure to call and pressure him to stay away from the scene came after several negotiations to prevent him from tweeting for the time being in favor of the Muslim Brotherhood, but the latter refused to do so, especially that there are some crises aroused between him and the regime in Qatar because of the reduction of his budget a while ago.
A source close to Rayyan said: “He was angry that he was prevented from attending the ceremony, but soon calmed down and began to make some contacts to fix the situation with the Qatari regime”.
