Nagelsmann says NO to Chelsea
A time cited as the big favorite to settle on Chelsea’s bench next season, Julian Nagelsmann would have declined the offer. The Blues would have targeted different profiles, including Vincent Kompany.
Thinking is becoming thinner. According to several English media outlets, including Sky Sports and The Times, Chelsea’s decision-makers have agreed on a short-list for their future coach.
What’s new is that Vincent Kompany (37) is one of them. The names of Mauricio Pochettino (51) and Julian Nagelsmann (35) are also mentioned, while the identity of another targeted coach has not filtered out.
The only certainty is that this is not Luis Enrique (52).
Nagelsmann puts a stop to the Blues
A time designated as the main favorite to succeed Graham Potter, the former Spanish coach would no longer be among the Blues’ low-hanging fruit. Kompany, on the other hand, has been popular since raising Burnley to the Premier League with a staunchly offensive style of play.
The former Belgian defender, four-time England champion as a player with the Skyblues, would also be of interest to Tottenham, looking for a coach for next season. There are also rumors in Manchester City that Pep Guardiola will leave, according to RMCSPORT.
Only 11th in the Premier League and recently eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, far from the goals set by new club boss Todd Boehly, Chelsea decided to trust Frank Lampard to close the season.
The rest could be written with Pochettino, who has been free since leaving the PSG in July 2022 and would now be open to a new challenge. He has reportedly begun discussions with the London club.
As for Nagelsmann, he would simply not be interested in the position. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the one who was fired by Bayern last month reportedly declined the offer after several exchanges.
