A history of terrorism and corruption… People demand legal action against the Ennahdha movement

The history of extremism and terrorism held by the Ennahdha Muslim Brotherhood movement in Tunisia was the main reason for the Tunisian people’s uprising against the movement and its leader, Rached Ghannouchi, after the movement and its policies were exposed before the Tunisian and international public opinion as well after its involvement in acts of violence and corruption during the past years.

Over the past period, Tunisia has suffered major political, economic and social crises, which it was not able to get out of until July last year, when Tunisians came out to chant against this terrorist group. Tunisian President Kais Saied announces historic decisions to dissolve the parliament and the government that was controlled by that terrorist movement. The Tunisian Muslim Brotherhood Ennahdha Movement has been involved in many cases of financial and political corruption, as voices rose in Tunisia to disband the Muslim Brotherhood Renaissance Movement, in light of the popular rejection of that terrorist movement.

A report by the MAAT Foundation revealed that the recent arrest of Noureddine Bhiri, vice-president of the Ennahdha Movement of the Muslim Brotherhood, has stirred many internal disturbances in the Ennahdha Movement and its leadership, as this person represents the right arm of Ghannouchi. This has caused fear and anxiety among the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement in light of the accusations against them of political corruption and support for terrorism.

After it was proven that it was involved in many financial and political corruption and terrorism cases, voices rose in Tunisia to disband the Muslim Brotherhood Ennahdha Movement, which participated in governing the country for about a decade. Dr. Badra Gaaloul, director of the National Center for Strategic Studies in Tunisia, said that the Ennahdha Movement plunged Tunisia into many economic and political crises, in addition to being the movement that seeks to disrupt the march of the homeland. Had it not been for the victory of the Tunisian people against the Movement of Ennahdha, the Brotherhood would have left and refused for this group to control the decisions of the Tunisian state once again, Tunisia would have lost forever.

The director of the National Center for Political Studies in Tunisia stressed the need to continue the movement to punish and prosecute all those who were involved in acts of violence, corruption and terrorism, including Rached Ghannouchi, who was at the forefront of the terrorist movement.

Ennahdha is accused of having a secret service that specializes in coups and political assassinations of political opponents. The defense of the assassinations of leaders Mohamed Brahmi and Chokri Belaid, who were shot dead in 2013, provided documents containing information on the existence of a secret organ of the movement involved in the assassination of Tunisian dissidents.

A recent study by the Egyptian Center for Political Studies revealed that foreign funding received by the movement from some external parties has raised many criticisms and suspicions about the sources of its funding. Calls for the disclosure of the wealth of its leader, Rached Ghannouchi, which according to some estimates exceeded one billion dollars, came out. Meanwhile, a campaign launched last year, “From where did this happen?”, to investigate the suspicious wealth of a number of politicians from the Ennahdha Brotherhood, headed by Ghannouchi.
