U.S. Commends UAE’s Humanitarian Support for Gaza Residents
The United States has praised the humanitarian support provided by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the residents of Gaza. This commendation came during a phone call between Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State.
According to a statement from the U.S. State Department, the call addressed “diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, which would facilitate the release of hostages and help increase and sustain levels of humanitarian aid in Gaza.”
Blinken confirmed “the United States’ commitment to reaching an agreement,” emphasizing “the importance of preventing further escalation of the conflict.” He expressed appreciation for the significant humanitarian support provided by the UAE to Gaza residents, including the evacuation of 148 Palestinians this week who were in urgent need of medical treatment.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the two parties also discussed “the grave developments in the Middle East region, ways to halt all forms of escalation, and efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza.”
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also highlighted “the importance of intensifying international efforts to enhance humanitarian response to the escalating crisis in Gaza and to protect all civilian lives.” He added the “necessity to end extremism, rising tensions, and escalating violence in the region, which threatens regional and international security and peace, and to work urgently to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of civilians in Gaza.”
The phone call also addressed the situation in Sudan and its humanitarian implications.
Unwavering Support
The UAE’s support efforts for Gaza are ongoing, with the most recent being the largest medical evacuation operation, following the arrival of the largest aid ship. These efforts continue on various political, diplomatic, and humanitarian fronts, with successive initiatives demonstrating the UAE’s and its leadership’s commitment to the people of Gaza, trying to heal their wounds and alleviate their suffering in a region enduring continuous Israeli bombardment since October 7.
