Al-Kadhimi: Political blocs must resolve political impasse through dialog
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on Wednesday that “political blocs are required today to assume their responsibilities in resolving the issue of political blockades,” stressing that “there is no option but dialog.”
Mustafa al-Kadhimi added: “I hope that everyone will work hard to resolve the political impasse and resort to dialog to resolve the differences. We have no choice but dialog.”
“Dialog for a thousand years is better than a moment when Iraqis clash,” the Iraqi prime minister said.
He continued: “Today, we need integration and cooperation in order to mobilize energies and build an Iraq that is suitable for Iraqis,” he said. “These efforts will not be lost, and we will not allow corrupt people to exploit and waste the people’s money.”
Al-Kadhimi’s statements come at a time when Iraq is going through a political crisis. Thousands of supporters of Al-Sadr movement leader Muqtada Al-Sadr have held a sit-in in the Iraqi parliament in response to his call to dissolve the parliament and to return the early elections.
In response to the protests and sit-ins, the Iraqi Coordination Framework Forces (IRF) has backed away from the nomination of former Islamic Dawa Party leader Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, but is seeking to replace current Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
