Opening of UAE Field Hospital in Chad to Support Sudanese Refugees
Under the directives of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE has opened a comprehensive field hospital in Chad to support Sudanese refugees.
The “Emirates Field Hospital” was inaugurated in the city of Abéché in Chad to provide medical treatment and care to Sudanese refugee brethren on Chadian soil, according to the Emirates News Agency “WAM.”
The hospital, opened by Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, State Minister, includes:
– Pediatric, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and internal medicine departments.
– Operating room, emergency unit, laboratory, pharmacy, and various radiology departments.
– It comprises 10 ICU beds and 50 inpatient beds, along with other medical specialties.
The hospital staff consists of 22 doctors, 92 nurses, along with 12 medical support personnel and 41 non-medical support staff, operated by Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
The opening of the field hospital comes “within the framework of the leadership’s keenness to provide continuous humanitarian and relief support to our Sudanese brethren, to alleviate the livelihood burdens imposed on them by the conditions of wars, and to meet their medical, humanitarian, and relief needs… within the UAE’s authentic approach of standing with brethren and extending a helping hand to them in various circumstances.”
Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan emphasized that the hospital’s opening comes as part of the support provided by the UAE to Sudanese brethren affected by the difficult conditions resulting from the conflict in Sudan since April 2023, and in support of the efforts made by the Republic of Chad to respond to humanitarian situations and mitigate the effects of the massive influx of Sudanese refugees onto its territory.
He expressed gratitude to the friendly Republic of Chad for its efforts and cooperation in establishing this hospital, which also serves the surrounding areas.
The establishment of this comprehensive field hospital in Abéché, costing over 20 million US dollars, is designed according to the highest medical standards, in line with the best modern field hospitals, with a complete medical team in all specialties providing round-the-clock services professionally, including dozens of experienced and highly qualified doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and technicians, using the latest medical equipment and modern drugs.
The hospital will contribute to providing humanitarian aid, support, and assistance to Sudanese brethren to alleviate the suffering of refugees and host communities, while providing necessary medical services to affected individuals, especially patients, children, elderly, and women.
The UAE has provided assistance to the Republic of Chad over the past five years, totaling about 467 million dollars, including approximately 100 million dollars to support refugees and provide them with assistance.
