Before the 2027 Election… Could Kylian Mbappé Become President of France?
The French presidential election is, by nature, a “race” in which politicians from various political backgrounds compete. However, it is nothing like football, where victory often goes to the fastest and strongest player.
On the contrary, the finish line of the race to the Élysée Palace is usually reached by those with the greatest political experience, extensive knowledge of government institutions, and strong public-speaking and leadership credentials. For this reason, the idea of French national team star Kylian Mbappé running for president may seem unusual.
Mbappé, who is preparing to lead France in the World Cup currently taking place in the United States, gave a clear and straightforward answer when asked about the possibility. In an interview with Le Parisien, he said: “Many people tell me that, but it is not part of my plans.”
The Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid forward added with a touch of irony: “I’m already hated enough,” referring to the criticism he receives despite being one of the most prominent football stars in the world.
His response reflects an awareness of the sensitivity of his position as a public figure. His fame extends far beyond sports and places him at the center of public debates, including political discussions.
At present, Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Rally party, is considered one of the leading figures in the race for the French presidency. Other candidates from both the political right and left are also being mentioned as potential contenders.
The second term of French President Emmanuel Macron will end next year, and under the French Constitution, he is not eligible to run for another consecutive term.
